XXX-Files files X Nub Maduro
Nub Maduro by Olivia X X-Files
This was gifted to me with I believe something like 2-3 years in my buddy Austin's humidor. The cellophane had the candied yellow color indicating it's aging. The beginning of this cigar was an explosion of pepper and spice, Cocoa and espresso. As I've approached the second third of the 4 inches that are the nub, the spice has mellowed and the cigar is far more mild than I expected, tasting of a mild black coffee being sipped. The retrohale no longer poses a danger of collapsing my sinuses and blinding me momentarily, giving way to a smooth silkiness that only borders creaminess. Notes of baking spices dance in the corners of the smoke but don't crowd the stage. McDonald's coffee specifically comes to the mind's eye when I taking longer, smokier draws.
Now halfway through, or just about, I've still got all of the ash hanging on. I'm letting it rest a moment, I don't want this thing getting too hot on me and ruining the flavor. Have a decent buzz off the cigar. This cigar would be perfect with a glass of red wine, or with its obvious soulmate, a cup of McDonald's coffee. Bringing it into the sweet realm with a White Russian is a golden ticket to a great evening.
First cigar to threaten to green me out, but I held strong. Aesthetically a beautiful cigar, and a great pair to a sweet treat like a white Russian or a chocolate milk, but as a standalone it becomes one-dimensional after the first third. Still excited to try the other cigars from the nub line.
